Trump’s crackdown on international students explained

As part of his wider crackdown on higher education, US President Donald Trump has moved to ban Harvard from enrolling international students, accusing the school of not doing enough to combat antisemitism on campus.

Harvard filed a lawsuit in response, and a judge has halted Trump’s ban for now, with a hearing on the matter scheduled for 29 May.

The US government has also ordered embassies to halt new student visa appointments as it prepares to expand social media vetting for applicants.

The BBC’s Nomia Iqbal visited the Ivy league school and explains how the Trump Administration’s move is part of a wider crackdown on elite universities.
