Exeter has welcomed the iconic Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy after it was brought to the city during a nationwide tour of the country.
The stunning gold trophy will remain in Exeter over the next few days before visiting the other host cities.
Fans have an opportunity to get involved and get their picture taken with the trophy as excitement builds ahead of the prestigious tournament.
Exeter is a host city, and seven games, including two quarter final matches, will be played at Exeter’s Sandy Park, home of Exeter Chiefs.
A reception was held at Exeter’s historic Guildhall to welcome the trophy to Exeter.
Bindu Arjoon, Chief Executive of Exeter City Council, said: “Sandy Park has shown time and again that it can welcome the world and deliver with passion and excellence.
“Looking ahead to 2025, we’re proud that Exeter will once again be at the heart of the global rugby stage. But this tournament is about more than elite sport – it’s also about inspiring the next generation of young girls and women, and ensuring the legacy of this event has real, lasting impact.
“As we welcome the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy to Exeter, let us also celebrate what it represents: equality, ambition, community, and the power of sport to unite and uplift.”
There are fewer than 100 days until the tournament kicks off on August 22. It will culminate in the final at Twickenham on 27 September.
Lord Mayor Cllr Anne Jobson said: “During the Men’s Rugby World Cup, we proudly welcomed the Ellis Cup into the Guildhall.
“Today is an equally proud moment – a reflection of how Exeter continues to embrace rugby at the highest level, across both the men’s and women’s game.
“This is not just about sport – it’s about inspiring the next generation of young girls and women, celebrating community, and promoting equality both on and off the pitch.”
Exeter is planning a vibrant programme of rugby-themed events and activities across the city, including an official fanzone in Princesshay, team welcome ceremonies, and community engagement events with players from visiting nations meeting residents, schools and clubs.
Council Leader Phil Bialyk said: “The Women’s Rugby World Cup is now less than 100 days away, and excitement is building across the city.
“The trophy tour has attracted a lot of interest, and we are all now really looking forward to the start of the tournament. It will provide a major boost to women’s participation in sport and to the city generally.”
Tickets are currently on sale, with prices starting at just £10 for adults and £5 for children – making it easier than ever for everyone to be part of this historic moment for women’s sport.
The trophy will be on display in Exeter on:
