Young man attacked in large scale disorder on Teignmouth beach

A young man was attacked by four adults with weapons in part of a “wider, large-scale disorder” at seaside town beach, police have said.

Officers were called to Back Beach in Teignmouth at about 20:45 BST on Friday, where 50 to 100 teenagers and adults were present.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was trying to identify the victim of the attack and urged them to get in touch “so we can check on their welfare”.

No arrests have been made and an investigation was continuing.

Footage from the scene which has been shared on social media was being investigated, police said.

Det Sgt Emma Boobyer urged “anyone who was involved to come forward”.

“This incident will no doubt cause concern in the community,” she said.

“CCTV enquiries are ongoing and there will be a heightened police presence in the area this morning and over this weekend.

“We would ask that people do not share the footage but if anyone has any information, please speak with our officers.”
